We hope you have all had a great summer and that you’re looking forward to a productive year.
We’ve had two great speakers at our last two meetings — Angela Render spoke about social media for writers in July and Carolee Noury discussed writing the professional author bio at our last meeting in August.
Speaking of which: If you are an MWA member (I hope most of you have joined!) and would like your bio included on our local chapter “members” page, please email a one-paragraph bio to Chapter President, Nancy Smay and we’ll put it up! You’re welcome to send a headshot as well, if you like.
If anyone would like to participate in the Connections Round Table coming up on November 15 with acclaimed author Andrew Lam at CSM, please indicate your interest soon. We need to let the college know how many sets of materials we’ll need. Please learn more about this opportunity here.
We hope you will plan to join us for our September workshop, which will Wayne Karlin leading exercises and discussing Point of View in fiction. Wayne Karlin is the author of seven novels and three nonfiction books. He has received several Maryland State Arts Council fellowships in fiction, two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Paterson Prize in Fiction, and an Excellence in the Arts Award from the Vietnam Veterans of America. He teaches at the College of Southern Maryland.
Our goal moving forward is to host one meeting focused on the business side of writing, and then one focused on the art or craft. Here is the upcoming schedule. Please note DAY and LOCATION changes due to the library being very busy in the fall:
- MONDAY, September 23, 6:30, Lexington Park Library: Wayne Karlin, Point of View Workshop
- TUESDAY, October 22, 6:30, Lexington Park Library: Rebecca Woosley, Internet Security for Writers
- THURSDAY, November 7, LEONARDTOWN Library: No speaker planned yet
- THURSDAY, December 12, Lexington Park Library: Holiday party?
We hope to see you at our next meeting. We’ve had a lot of fun lately with random door prizes for attendees and great talks! Come out and get inspired!
